MOQ (minimum order quantity) is the smallest production run a factory accepts. In activewear the number on a website rarely tells the whole story. A very low figure usually means one of three things: blank styles cut from fabric the factory already stocks, a minimum counted per order instead of per style, or a minimum that rises once you ask for your own color, your own fabric or your own fit.
The question that matters is: how many units per style, per color, in my fabric and my pattern? Technical activewear fabrics (nylon and polyester with spandex) are knitted and dyed in lots, so every custom color has a real floor at the mill. A factory that answers that question clearly is giving you a number you can plan a launch around.
We wrote more about this in the 50-piece MOQ post. The short version: compare minimums only when they mean the same thing.
